Who’s John?
Hi,my name is John (Giovanni originally). I was born in Palermo, Sicily a long long time ago who wound up here in Texas. How does one wind up in Texas? My wife of 26 years, position moved. At the time 7 years ago, I was a salesman for Coca Cola in Nassau County, Long Island and injured. Prior to that I had been a store manager, district manager of a major drug store chain, and a store owner of a gift shop.
As far as my education goes, I received a BA from City University in NY in Italian, minoring in Education. During this period teaching jobs were scarce, so I switched careers, that lasted till I came to Texas.
On account of numerous injuries and arthritis (I told you I was old) setting in, I decided to pursue a teaching degree here at UTA. I took Spanish courses as a passtime to kill the pain. Two years ago I was able to teach HS Spanish for a semester, a rewarding experience but it was not for me.
Last year I decided that I should pursue a Master’s degree and learn as much as possible, while I’m here at UTA. Last year, I started working as a math and english tutor in Ft. Worth schools, this year it will be Dallas schools. The company I work for is sponsored by the “No child left behind act”. I love it communicating one on one.

Giovanni… I am so sad to hear you did not enjoy teaching. Have you ever thought about teaching Italian? High School Italian teachers are so hard to find, and as an Italian myself, I think that’s such a shame. I hope you give it a second chance as I know you could bring so much passion and personal experience to teaching people the beauty of the Italian language and culture. One day, I’d like to persue it… but I don’t have nearly the education you have in that area!
Anyway, my next reply will be more on topic.

John, Glad to know your official history, finally. And don’t worry about the arthritis, at least it’s not alzheimers, always a possibility at our age. How’s the tutoring going? and Where in Dallas are you working?
